Courtesy: Does It Make the World Go Round?

As with any web site, we get our fair share of spam- all of which is carefully edited out to make this a happy and enjoyable place to discuss philosophical and humanistic issues.

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if everyone interacted in ways where the other person was put first and treated with courtesy and politeness? (And think of how much time would be saved and how much more smoothly interactions would go if people acted according to social norms and read directions on web sites….Please make posts ONLY if you posting a quotable, pithy or amusing thought that doesn’t include selling something to unsuspecting members….)

  1. Is Tim Tebow as courteous to others as he is to his Saviour? We may soon find out.

  2. The face of courtesy changes as the decades pass. The old standard response to a “thank you” was “your welcome”. Today it is a less formal “no problem”. The former “I’m sorry” is now the less grammatically correct “my bad”. The standard “God bless you (or gesundheit)” may well become “bless the mess”.

  3. Picaresque Courtesy: Don’t twist the rules like they wuz an old string mop; don’t pick your nose in mixed company; always cover your mouth when you belch; offer your chair to anyone with a gun; and don’t forget to beg a pardon when you shoot your neighbor’s dog.

  4. There once was a man at D’Phi,
On whose songs we all would rely.
    “Miralto Marie”,
    Which casts courtesy,
Will live though mere mortals shall die.

  6. Courtesy is not a town in South Carolina. It is an attitude. It is putting self in perspective. It is treating others with respect. It is recognizing borders. Courtesy is not a town in South Carolina.

  7. Incidentally, as to the warning issued to those attempting to use the site for personal enrichment, please be advised that I am no longer accepting requests to purchase my crows. And, as to the penguins, I was down to my last one. I took him up to the roof here at the Bedlam Home to disprove those who doubted that my others had flown away. The test did not go well, so no need to worry about me selling them either.
