Reading about private equity deals recently started me thinking on the topic of greed. Is it all bad? Or can some level be good? Does it spur people on to create new companies and products? Or does it a negative emotion that brings down humanity?
Thoughts?

Scrooge McDuck…was he loved, was he respected? Did he improve the lifes of others or bring them happiness? Did he ever smile or treat someone with kindness? Enough said. Let’s put this one to bed.

Great…great…everything is great except greed grates upon my innermost spirit, causing me extreme discomfort. I yearn to free my soul from its shackles and return to a time when I was in better control of my desires.

Nothing’s all good…nothing’s all bad. Sometimes your glad…sometimes your sad. Sow only the seed for the harvest you need. Feast follows famine. Drought follows flood.

What if greed could be directed away from self and toward the greater good. We might then call this reverse greed “deerg” and hope that it would attract the one percent of our population which would have the greatest impact.

When your spur is greed, you tend to exceed the reasonable speed needed to achieve your place in the lead. If out of control, greed takes its toll. They dig you a hole but can’t save your soul.

As I see it, greed spurs individuals toward a destination of unlimited wealth, which, like infinity, can be approached but never reached. In the wake of such greed-fueled excursions, one may find some actual benefits to society alongside an overwhelming amount of collateral damage to disinterested parties, spectators and participants, including the greedy one who will go the grave cursing his or her failure to complete the journey.

Do I despise crows? Does a bear barf in the woods? Does a falling tree produce sound waves? Does hard boiled eggs? Do does eat oats? Does it really matter? The important thing is that greed is a creed I reject categorically.

Ahoy, Bedlam Bob…me thinks your obsession with crows is throwing you off course. Spend a bit more time on the rudder and a bit less clearing crows from the rigging.

It is one thing to be greedy, quite another to be needy. If I controlled my ways and means, I’d slip between the two extremes.

It was not greed that drove me into crow commodities. It was the constant racket…the perpetual single syllable calls…the endless streams of black avian bodies destroying the calmness of a cobalt blue sky. I seem to be overextended in crow while conventional wisdom continues to talk pork bellies.

When motivated by greed, you tend to take more than you need. When not motivated at all, your life slows down to a crawl. You struggle each day for miniscule pay and curse the futility of it all.
